AMHERST, N. S. — The Amherst Ramblers are proud to recognize Head Coach and General Manager Phil Fife on reaching 100 career wins as a head coach, achieving the milestone with a victory over the Chaleur Lightning.

Since joining the Ramblers organization in May 2023, Fife has helped establish a competitive culture in Amherst, bringing experience as both a player and coach to the team’s leadership group.

Fife arrived in Amherst after spending three seasons as an assistant coach with the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League’s Estevan Bruins. During his time with the Bruins, he was part of a coaching staff that captured three consecutive division titles and the league championship in the 2021-22 season.

His impact in Amherst was quickly recognized. In his first season as head coach in 2023-24, Fife guided the Ramblers to a 27-20-3-2 record and a second-place finish in the MHL’s Eastlink South Division. The team improved by 21 points from the previous season, earning Fife the Maritime Junior Hockey League’s Coach of the Year award. It was the first time an Amherst head coach had received the honour since Bill Riley in 1989-90.

Before beginning his coaching career, Fife built an impressive playing résumé of his own. Originally from Oromocto, New Brunswick, he played three seasons of junior hockey in the Maritime Hockey League, winning two league championships. He then continued his hockey career at the University of Waterloo, where he played four seasons of U SPORTS hockey.

Fife’s journey from championship-winning player to assistant coach and now head coach and general manager reflects his continued dedication to the game and his commitment to developing competitive hockey programs.

The Amherst Ramblers congratulate Phil on reaching this significant milestone and thank him for his leadership, hard work, and continued commitment to the organization.

Congratulations on 100 career wins, Phil!
